How much luggage can I bring on my Greyhound trip?

Greyhound will accept one carry-on bag under 25 pounds, and one checked bag which must not exceed 63 inches when adding up the dimensions (length + width + height) and should not weigh more than 50 pounds.  

Up to 2 additional bags can be checked for $20 each. Bikes can be transported if they fold down into a wood or canvas container (you’ll need to pay an oversized item charge, too). See the Greyhound luggage policy for more details.

Does Greyhound have amenities on board?

Greyhound does offer WiFi, power outlets, and bathrooms on board most of its trips. Please keep in mind that since these are complimentary it is within the carrier's rights to not offer them on specific routes or if there are technical issues outside of their control.

Does Greyhound have a discount for children or infants?

One child less than 2 years old may travel as a lap child, meaning not occupying a seat, may travel at no additional charge. Infants occupying a seat pay the applicable adult fare.

Can minors travel alone on Greyhound?

Travelers age 16 and up qualify as an adult when traveling. Children age 15 and under must be accompanied on the same bus by a parent, legal guardian, or another passenger at least 16 years old.

Any traveler, regardless of age, occupying a seat must pay the applicable adult fare.

After Booking Your Ticket

Do I need to print my Greyhound ticket?

Greyhound does not require a printed ticket to board the train. An E-Ticket is sent to you by email that you can load on most electronic devices. You will want to have your ticket ready to be displayed as you board for the agent to scan.

How early should I arrive at the station?

We recommend arriving at least 20-30 minutes before the departure time to prepare for the boarding process. If you chose to pick up your ticket at the station, we suggest arriving at least 45-60 minutes before your departure in case there is a line at the ticket desk.

Do I need an ID to board my bus?

Yes, Greyhound requires you to present an ID to an agent to board the bus. Make sure you have identification issued by a government agency that meets the carrier’s requirements. Alternative IDs, like a college ID, won’t work. If you do not have an ID, please contact Greyhound directly to ask about alternative boarding options.

Cancelling or Changing Your Greyhound Reservation

Can I make changes to my ticket?

As long as the bus has not already departed, you can make changes to your trip up to 15 minutes prior to departure. To change your ticket, log into Manage My Booking with your booking number (found on your email confirmation) and the email address you used to purchase your ticket. You can instantly cancel/refund your ticket and use the remaining value towards your new ticket. See Greyhound's cancellation policy. All tickets are non-exchangeable & non-refundable after the bus has departed.

Can I cancel my ticket and get a refund?

You can cancel your ticket up to 15 minutes before departure and get a full or partial refund in the form of a voucher, depending on how far in advance you are cancelling. To confirm if you qualify for a voucher please see Greyhound's cancellation policy.

To cancel your ticket, log into Manage My Booking with your booking number (found on your email confirmation) and the email address you used to purchase your ticket. Follow the prompts to instantly cancel your ticket. If you purchased travel insurance with Allianz when you booked your ticket, you can file a claim for reimbursement - see details here.

Greyhound offers an online tracker to see when your bus will arrive!

I missed my bus! What do I do?

Catching the next trip out or requesting a refund for the unused ticket would be completely up to Greyhound, since reservations and transactions are done directly with the carrier.
Usually, no refunds or credits will be given in instances where passengers miss the bus, but you can always contact Greyhound to inquire at +1 (800) 231-2222.
